I have just found out that I am pregnant
If you’ve just found out that you’re pregnant, it’s really important that you self-refer to the pregnancy team at Queen’s Hospital so that they can book you in for your appointments as soon as possible.
What medical support should you expect throughout your pregnancy
You will normally be seen for your first appointment between 8 to 10 weeks, depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy when the team get your self-referral.
What supplements should you take?
Doctors advise that all pregnant people take:
- 400mg of Folic Acid until they are 12 weeks pregnant
- 10 mg of Vitamin D for their whole pregnancy.
Choosing where to give birth
Your options about where to have your baby will depend on:
- your needs
- any risks that need to be managed so you can have your baby safely
- what you want your birth to be like
If you have a medical condition, the team may recommend that you have your baby in hospital where specialists are available.
Wherever you choose, the place should feel right for you.
You can change your mind at any point in your pregnancy and can discuss your preferences with your midwife or obstetrician.
You can find a full list of where you can have your baby on the NHS website.
If you wish to give birth at Queen’s Hospital, you can find out more about what your experience will be like on their website.
